Get e-mail updates with our location.

For christmas we got our mom a SPOT messenger (or rather we got us a SPOT messenger for her). The device lets us send a preset email containing our lat/long via satellite to our mailing list from anywhere in the world. Welcome to the future.

If you’d like to sign up, you’ll receive an e-mail whenever we decide to update, which in general has been as we pass milestones during passages or as we move to a new location.

Disclaimer: If its been a while since we sent out updates its probably because a) we’re having too much fun and forgot to push it. b) the device ran out of batteries or c) we accidentally dropped it to the bottom of the ocean, but it DOES NOT mean that we’re in trouble. We have dedicated emergency locator beacons (two of them) that we can activate if we’re actually in trouble.

For anyone who has Google Earth installed I’ve been adding all the SPOT updates to a .kmz file

  2. This sounds awesome, my mum’s been asking for Yaz and I to get something like this too. Do you know if you can sync it to Google Maps and then embed the map on a site or blog?

All of the “brief daily updates” can be seen by clicking on the sailboat icons after you zoom into the current location. Just saying
